ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled right wing Dustin Penner from the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).
Penner, 23 (9/28/82), has appeared in six games this season with Anaheim, earning 2-2=4 points with four penalty minutes. The 6-4, 245-pound winger recorded his first NHL goal and tied a franchise rookie record for goals in a game with 2-1=3 points on Nov. 30 vs. Phoenix.
With the Pirates, the Winkler, Manitoba native has played in 34 games this season, scoring a team-leading 26-27=53 points with a +27 rating. Despite missing 10 Portland games while with Anaheim, Penner still ranks fourth in the AHL in points, third in goals, and first in plus/minus. He scored goals in each of his last five games with Portland (7-2=9) and tallied 15-18=33 points in 18 games since being reassigned to Portland on Dec. 15.
