The Ducks have reassigned right wing Devante Smith-Pelly
to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Smith-Pelly, 21 (6/14/92), did not make an appearance for the Ducks following his Oct. 14 recall from Norfolk. He has appeared in four games for the Admirals this season, scoring two shorthanded goals (2-0=2) with a +2 rating. He played six preseason games for the Ducks last month, recording 1-2=3 points with eight penalty minutes (PIM). Among team leaders, Smith-Pelly ranked tied for third in preseason scoring and tied for fifth in shots on net (10). In 2012-13, the 6-0, 222-pound winger went scoreless in seven regular-season games with the Ducks. He played the remainder of last season with Norfolk, earning 14-18=32 points with 65 PIM in 65 contests.
Selected in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Smith-Pelly made his NHL debut with Anaheim in 2011-12, collecting 7-6=13 points with 16 PIM in 49 contests. The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in his first contest with the Ducks at 19 years, three months and 23 days on Oct. 7 at Buffalo (Helsinki, Finland), becoming the third-youngest player to appear in an Anaheim uniform. Smith-Pelly scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 9, 2011 vs. Nashville (Rinne). In 73 career AHL contests, he has amassed 16-19=35 points with 67 PIM.
