The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned defenseman Brendan Mikkelson to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL), and right wing Dan Sexton and goaltender Timo Pielmeier to the Bakersfield Condors, Anaheim’s development affiliate in the ECHL.
Mikkelson, 22 (6/22/87), recorded 0-2=2 points with eight penalty minutes (PIM) in 22 contests for Anaheim this season. Recalled from the Marlies on Feb. 25, Mikkelson did not make an appearance in his most recent stint for the Ducks. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner was originally recalled from Toronto on Oct. 11 and reassigned to the Marlies on Dec. 2. In 40 games this season with Toronto, Mikkelson has earned 5-10=15 points with 37 PIM. He currently ranks second on the club in scoring among defensemen. In 56 career NHL games, the Regina, Saskatchewan native has scored 0-4=4 points with 25 PIM.
Sexton, 22 (4/29/87), collected 9-9=18 points with 14 PIM in 28 games for the Ducks this season. He did not appear in a game for Anaheim after his Feb. 25 recall from Manitoba (AHL). Originally recalled from Manitoba on Dec. 4, Sexton scored 6-5=11 points in the month of December for Anaheim, ranking second among league rookies in scoring and tied for second in goals. Sexton also posted a career-high three-game goal streak (4-3=7) from Dec. 8-12. He was reassigned to the Moose on Jan. 31. In 13 contests with Manitoba, the Apple Valley, MN native earned 5-7=12 points with two PIM. He began the 2009-10 season with Bakersfield, scoring 13-13=26 points with a +8 rating and 14 PIM. He earned ECHL Player of the Week honors for Nov. 16-22, collecting 5-4=9 points in four contests.
Pielmeier, 20 (7/7/89), did not make an appearance for Anaheim following his Feb. 25 recall from Bakersfield. Pielmeier has played 42 games for Bakersfield in his rookie season, posting a 20-16-5 record with a 3.09 goals-against average (GAA) and .886 save percentage (SV%). He currently ranks tied for second in the ECHL in wins and ranks fourth among all rookies in GAA. The 6-0, 197-pound netminder posted a season-high 34 saves in a 6-5 overtime loss at Las Vegas on Feb. 12. Pielmeier was named the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Month in November, going 6-1-0 with a 2.07 GAA and .925 SV% during that span. The Deggendorf, Germany native appeared in 93 QMJHL contests from 2007-09, posting a 52-37 record with a 2.80 GAA and .912 SV%.
