Ducks Notes: Anaheim Continues to Flourish in '12

DUCKS START ANEW IN 2012: Since Jan. 1, the Ducks have posted a 12-3-3 (27 pts) record, tied with the NY Rangers for the third-best record in the NHL (Detroit has earned 29 points (14-4-1) and St. Louis has 28 points (13-2-2) since Jan. 1) addition, Anaheim has scored 56 goals in 18 games since Jan. 1 (3.11 per game), the third-highest mark in the NHL behind Nashville (3.22) and Boston (3.22)...since the start of the new year, Corey Perry ranks tied for second in goals with 12 (PIT’s Malkin has 17), while Lubomir Visnovksy ranks tied for third in assists among defensemen (11), and tied for third among all players in plus/minus (+11) addition, Jonas Hiller ranks tied for second in wins (10) since Jan. 1.

ROAD WARRIORS: Anaheim continues a stretch of eight consecutive games away from home, matching the longest uninterrupted road trip in club history...the team played nine straight road games from Jan. 24-Feb. 12, 2008 (5-3-1 record), however that trip began in LA before the All-Star break...the remaining portion of that stretch featured eight straight over 14 days (Jan. 30-Feb. 12), which was the longest uninterrupted road trip in club history until the current, eight-game, 15-day trip...the club also played eight consecutive road games from Mar. 12-Mar. 30, 2001 (2-4-2 record)...however, that was split up into five- and three-game trips (the sixth game was @ LA, with a return home).

CLIMBING THE CHARTS: 41-year-old RW Teemu Selanne is in the midst of his 20th NHL season and 13th with the 1,314 career NHL games (WPG, ANA, SJ and COL), Selanne has earned 655-736=1,391 points...he currently ranks 13th on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list (second among active players; Jagr), 43rd in assists (fourth among active players), and tied for 21st in points (third among active players)...Selanne is only one goal shy of matching Brendan Shanahan (656) for 12th in all-time goals, three points shy of matching Luc Robitaille (1,394) for 20th in all-time points (tied at 21st with Brett Hull), and two power play goals from a share of fourth in all-time PPG list with Luc Robitaille (247) 829 career contests with Anaheim, Selanne has scored 428-494=922 points with 421 PIM and a +128 rating...he is the club's all-time leader in goals, points, assists, games played, plus/minus, PPG (172), PPP (388), GWG (69), shots (2,696) and OT goals (6).

ETEM ACHIEVES 50 (AND 51) IN 50: Ducks 2009 first-round pick (29th overall) Emerson Etem scored his 50th and 51st goals of the season on Sunday for Medicine Hat (WHL)…it was Etem's 50th game of the season (Medicine Hat has played 57)…his milestone 50th was the game-winner (4-2 final score)…the Long Beach, CA native became the first WHL player since 1998-99 to score 50 goals in his first 50 games-or-less…Pavel Brendl (Calgary Hitmen) was the last to do it, scoring 50 goals in his first 43 games that season…in addition, Etem leads the CHL (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) in goals, with no other player in the CHL currently with more than 45 (Zach O’Brien, Acadie-Bathurst (QMJHL))…Etem is riding a current 18-game point streak, scoring 22 goals in that stretch (22-8=30)…he also had an 11-game goal streak from Dec. 10 – Jan. 27, the WHL’s longest since the 2003-04 season…Etem has 51-38=89 points with a +21 rating in his 50 games this season.

TUESDAY’S GAME: The Anaheim Ducks (22-24-9, 53 pts.) continue a season-high eight-game, 15-day road trip (see road trip note below) against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday at Xcel Energy Center (4:30 p.m. PST, NBC Sports Network/AM 830)...the Ducks have gained points in five straight games (3-0-2) and have earned points in 15 of their last 17 contests (12-2-3)...on the road, Anaheim has picked up points in eight of its last nine contests (5-1-3) dating back to Dec. 22 at Los Angeles...Teemu Selanne enters tomorrow’s game only one goal shy of matching Brendan Shanahan (656) for 12th in all-time goals (full note below)...the Ducks will fly to Pittsburgh for a contest on Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Center (4 p.m. PST)...the back-to-back set marks the club's eighth of the season...the Ducks are 5-7-2 in back-to-backs thus far (2-3-2 in first contest).

DUCKS-WILD: Tuesday marks the final contest between the Ducks and Wild in 2011-12…the club is 1-2-0 vs. Minnesota this season and Teemu Selanne leads the club with 0-5=5 points in those three contests this season…Anaheim owns an all-time record of 18-16-9 vs. Minnesota, including a 6-9-7 mark at Honda Center...Tuesday marks the 13th game all-time between brothers Saku (ANA and MTL) and Mikko (MIN) 12 career NHL contests vs. his brother, Saku has scored 2-4=6 points, and is 3-3-3 with Anaheim and 2-0-1 with Montreal for a combined 5-3-4 vs. the Wild…in 12 career contests vs. Saku, Mikko has scored 4-5=9 points...the Wild has posted a 7-5-0 record vs. Saku’s teams in those games.

BOUDREAU TAKES THE REINS: Bruce Boudreau was named the eighth head coach of the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 30...the Ducks are now 15-11-5 under his leadership...since his NHL debut as a head coach on Nov. 23, 2007, Boudreau has the second-best win percentage in the league...he is now 216-99-45 in 360 career games with both Anaheim and Washington (.663%), second to only Todd McLellan of San Jose (182-80-37, .671%).

- Over the last 16 games (10-2-3, one ND), Jonas Hiller has stopped 377-of-407 shots for a .926 SV% and a 1.93 GAA (30 GA/935 MIN).
- Corey Perry notched his fifth career hat trick (3-0=3) and registered a career-high 11 shots on net (one shy of club record) on Sunday at Columbus...since the start of the 2010-11 season, no NHL player has MORE three-or-more goal games than Perry (Semin, Stamkos and Stafford all have four 3-or-more goal games in that time)...leading the Ducks in goals (26) and power play goals (12), while ranking second in points (44), Perry ranks third in the NHL in PPG and seventh in goals...Perry has four goals over the last three games (4-0=4) and has scored 20-13=33 points over the last 36 contests.
- Teemu Selanne has scored 3-3=6 points over the last seven games and 7-8=15 points with a +5 rating over the last 17...Leading the club with 18-33=51 points (.93 points-per-game), Selanne is tied for eighth in the NHL in PPG (9).
- Ryan Getzlaf has scored five assists (0-5=5 in his last five games) and 1-11=12 points in 13.
- Francois Beauchemin has led Anaheim in ice time in 35 of 55 games in 2010-11, including the last 12 straight...he ranks sixth in the NHL in avg. TOI (26:08) and tied for ninth in blocked shots (124).
- Lubomir Visnovsky has scored 0-4=4 points with a +6 rating in the last five games, 1-8=9 points with +7 in the last 11 games and 1-11=12 points with a +11 in the last 16.
- In the last 14 games, Saku Koivu has scored 5-6=11 points and has notched 5-9=14 points (+6) in the last 19.

PROSPECT WATCH: Justin Schultz ranks tied for ninth among all NCAA Division I players in scoring and tied for sixth in assists with 12-26=38 points in 28 contests...Schultz, a junior playing for Wisconsin, is the only defenseman ranked in the top 15 among all NCAA scorers this season...Schultz leads the Badgers in goals and ranks second in points, assists and power play goals (5)...the second-round selection (48th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft has 105 career points with Wisconsin, becoming the first Badger defenseman to collect at least 100 since Brian Rafalski did so in 1994-95…in Syracuse (AHL), Kyle Palmieri ranks third among AHL leaders in goals and co-leads in game-winning goals (6)…an AHL Eastern Conference All-Star, Palmieri also ranks second on Syracuse in scoring with 26-14=40 points in 30 games...Syracuse scoring leader Patrick Maroon ranks seventh in AHL scoring and tied for sixth in goals with 22-27=49 points in 47 games…Peter Holland ranks third on Syracuse in goals and points (17-19=36) in 44 games and ranks seventh among AHL rookies in goals and points.
