Winning Entry Received Over 4,800 Votes in “Name the Rivalry” Contest
Southern California hockey fans have spoken and selected a name for the local NHL rivalry. Following a seven-week online contest, “Freeway Face-Off” has become the name by which all future competitions between the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings will be called. “Freeway Face-Off” received over 4,800 votes, besting three other finalists: “Freezeway Series”, “Ice-5 Series” and “Crosstown Showdown.” More than 12,000 people voted in the contest overall.
FSN PRIME TICKET revealed the rivalry name during telecast coverage of the Kings at Ducks on Tuesday night in Anaheim. As the “Freeway Face-Off” name and logo were revealed, “Name the Rivalry” contest winner Jenny Keane of Anaheim was introduced, congratulated and presented with the grand prize, which includes two tickets to each of the future 2007-08 “Freeway Face-Off” games. Keane, one of 65 fans who submitted “Freeway Face-Off”, was randomly selected as the winner per contest rules.
Spoils for the winner of the eight-game “Freeway Face-Off” rivalry include a $50,000 donation to the team’s foundation and possession of the series trophy.
