The Ducks will host the fourth annual Anaheim Ducks West Coast Prospects Camp at THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE from June 18-20. The invitation-only camp brings together the top youth talent from Southern California, giving players an opportunity to showcase their skills before premier university and major junior league scouting staffs.
“This is a great indication that the talent of Southern California youth hockey is growing,” said Art Trottier, Anaheim ICE General Manager. “This camp creates opportunities for local hockey players, enabling them to take the next step in their development.”
All participants are Southern California natives, stretching as far south as San Diego and as far north as Santa Barbara. More than 120 players, ranging in ages from 13 to 17 years, will participate in the 2010 camp. Games begin at Anaheim ICE on Friday at 3 p.m. and are free of charge to the general public. A total of 16 games will be played throughout the weekend on the Anaheim ICE NHL and Olympic rinks, concluding on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
More than 20 U.S. colleges and major league junior hockey teams will attend the camp, which has seen over 350 local players participate since its debut in 2007. Among several Southern Californians ranked in the upcoming 2010 NHL Entry Draft, two have attended previous Anaheim Ducks West Coast Prospects Camps. Right wing Beau Bennett, a native of Gardena, Calif. and ranked 32nd heading into the 2010 draft, along with defenseman Taylor Aronson, a native of Placentia, Calif. and ranked 88th, both attended the 2008 camp.
Anaheim ICE is the Official Training Center of the Anaheim Ducks and an original member of the Anaheim Ducks’ THE RINKS development program. With a program launch in February 2009, the Ducks now operate four local skating facilities consisting of two ice rinks (THE RINK - Anaheim ICE and THE RINKS – Westminster ICE) and two inline facilities (THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline and THE RINKS – Corona Inline). Anaheim ICE is located at 300 W. Lincoln Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92805.
