Ducks Host High School Hockey League JV Championship on Monday

The Ducks will host the inaugural Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League Junior Varsity championship game this Monday, Feb. 28 at Honda Center. The championship game features JSerra against Servite beginning at 7 p.m. Admission and parking is free for the event for all spectators. Fans will be permitted to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages into the arena, which opens at 6:30 p.m.
Led by head coach Kelly Askew, JSerra finished the season with a perfect 12-0-0 record in division play, scoring a league-high 86 goals and allowing a league-best 34. Servite, guided by head coach and former NHL forward Randy Burridge, finished second behind JSerra with an 8-4-0 mark to advance to the championship game.
Burridge appeared in 13 NHL seasons with Boston, Washington, Los Angeles and Buffalo, scoring 199-251=450 points with 458 PIM in 706 career games. The veteran left wing also played 107 Stanley Cup Playoff games, earning 18-34=52 points with 105 PIM. Burridge reached the Stanley Cup Final with Boston twice, losing to Edmonton in 1987-88 and 1989-90.
Askew played NCAA Division I hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (R.P.I.) for four seasons before joining the Canadian National Team for the 1995-96 campaign. Following a four-year stint in Europe, Askew played two seasons with Long Beach of the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) and another with San Diego of the ECHL, combining for 82-80=162 points with 198 PIM in 146 games.
The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) joined Southern California’s first-ever high school hockey league in 2009 and the league swelled to seven clubs for the 2010-11 season with the addition of five teams and three new schools. Servite High School (Anaheim), Damien High School (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) are the newest members of the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League, which plays league games on Saturdays at THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE.
