Ducks Claim Lindstrom on Waivers

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks claimed left wing Joakim Lindstrom on waivers from Chicago and assigned him to the Iowa Chops, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Lindstrom, 24 (12/5/83), was originally acquired by Anaheim from Columbus in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft on July 15, 2008. He appeared in four preseason games with the Ducks, scoring 0-1=1 point with two penalty minutes (PIM) and a +3 rating, prior to being claimed on waivers by the Blackhawks on Oct. 3. Lindstrom played in one exhibition game with Chicago, going scoreless on Oct. 5 vs. Colorado.

"He’s a skilled forward," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "I didn’t think he had a real productive preseason, but we see his skills and recognize them. We think he should be able to complement our top-six grouping. He’s going to go onto Iowa and be a depth player for us."

Signed by Anaheim to a one-year contract on Aug. 27, 2008, Lindstrom appeared in 25 games with Columbus last season, scoring 3-4=7 points with an even plus/minus rating and 14 PIM. Lindstrom set NHL career highs in all offensive categories in 2007-08, including goals, assists, points, power play goals (2), game-winning goals (1) and shots (25). He spent the rest of the 2007-08 season with Syracuse, the Blue Jackets’ in the AHL. He scored 25-35=60 points with 68 PIM in 49 AHL games, leading the team in points and power play goals (13) while tying for the lead in goals. Lindstrom also appeared in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games with the Crunch, collecting 4-3=7 points with six PIM.

Selected by Columbus in the second round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Lindstrom has appeared in 37 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, scoring 4-4=8 points with 18 PIM. In four seasons with Syracuse, he collected 65-94=159 points with a +2 rating and 154 PIM in 176 career AHL games.

A native of Skelleftea, Sweden, Lindstrom registered 12-13=25 points with 60 PIM in 133 career games with MoDo in the Swedish Elite League from 2000-05.
