Ducks at Westminster Ice on Wednesday

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks will celebrate the grand opening of THE RINKS - Westminster ICE this Wednesday, Dec. 9 with a special holiday event to benefit the Anaheim Ducks Toy Drive, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove and Long Beach, along with athletes from the Special Olympics Southern California. Wednesday’s event will be highlighted by a holiday public skate free of charge for those who bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Anaheim Ducks Toy Drive. Along with admission to the holiday skate, each person with a toy donation will also receive a ticket voucher good for an upcoming Ducks home game (limit one voucher per person), and meet Ducks players Ryan Getzlaf and Jonas Hiller. The players will be on hand prior to the public skate to accept donated toys.

“We are pleased to be able to add Westminster ICE to our program,” said Art Trottier, General Manager of The Rinks-Anaheim ICE & Westminster ICE. “We feel this is an ideal location for skaters of all ages to participate in the sport of hockey.”

The holiday skate will be held from 6:45 p.m.-8:15 p.m. and toys will be collected from 5:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m. In addition, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove and Long Beach, along with athletes from the Special Olympics Southern California will be given the opportunity for a special private skate from 5:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m.

Getzlaf and Hiller will be on hand to collect toys and greet fans from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Wild Wing and the Power Players will be decked out in holiday outfits to complete the festive atmosphere while the Anaheim Ducks Street Team will help greet attendees in THE RINKS - Westminster ICE lobby. Complimentary holiday cookies and hot chocolate will be served for participants.

Westminster ICE was added to the THE RINKS development program last August, joining locations in Anaheim (THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE), Corona (THE RINKS - Corona Inline) and Huntington Beach (THE RINKS - Huntington Beach Inline). With Westminster ICE, the Ducks now operate four local skating facilities, consisting of two ice rinks and two inline facilities.

THE RINKS - Westminster ICE is located at 13071 Springdale St., just off the 22 and 405 freeways in Westminster, providing ideal access from all parts of Orange County. In addition to its youth and adult hockey programs, THE RINKS - Westminster ICE offers figure skating, a learn-to-skate program, broomball and public skating.
