The Ducks have signed a multi-year extension of their affiliate agreement with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. Anaheim, which originally signed its agreement with Utah on Aug. 7, 2013, maintains the geographically closest development affiliates in the American Hockey League (AHL, San Diego) and ECHL among Pacific Division teams.
The Utah Grizzlies are a member of the ECHL’s West Division, one of three divisions that make up the league’s Western Conference. This season, Utah leads the West Division with a 29-19-3 record and 61 points under Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. The Grizzlies also rank tied for second among ECHL Western Conference teams in wins and standings points, and second overall in goals (162).
Utah joined the ECHL in 2005-06 and plays its home games out of the Maverik Center in West Valley City, UT, the former main ice hockey venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. In two-plus seasons as an Anaheim development affiliate, the Grizzlies have posted a 104-70-20 record and qualified for the ECHL Playoffs in both 2014 and 2015.
Recent Anaheim affiliates in the ECHL have included the Utah Grizzlies (2013-present), Fort Wayne Komets (2012-13), Elmira Jackals (2010-12), Bakersfield Condors (2008-10) and Augusta Lynx (2006-08).
