The Anaheim Ducks announced on Wednesday the home opener date and three ‘at-large’ opponents for the 2008-09 regular season. The Ducks home opener will take place on Sunday, Oct. 12 (5:05 p.m.) as the club takes on the Phoenix Coyotes at Honda Center. In addition, Anaheim will compete in three ‘at-large’ games (the three Eastern Conference teams that Anaheim will play home and road) versus the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres as part of the NHL’s new scheduling matrix.The NHL will release the Ducks’ full 82-game schedule tomorrow (July 17). Individual regular season tickets for all Ducks games at Honda Center will go on sale Saturday, Sept. 20. Fans interested in purchasing season, premium or group seats can call 1-877-WILD WING. Honda Center seats 17,174 for NHL games.In November 2007, the NHL’s Board of Governors approved a new scheduling matrix, ensuring that each club will play every other club a minimum of once per season. The Ducks will play their four Pacific Division opponents six times each (three times at home, three times on the road) and will continue to face each non-divisional Western Conference opponent four times each (twice at home, twice on the road). The remaining 18 contests on the 82-game regular season schedule will be devoted to Eastern Conference opponents.
