Ducks Acquire Sprong from Pittsburgh in Exchange for Pettersson

The Ducks have acquired right wing Daniel Sprong from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Marcus Pettersson.
Sprong, 21 (3/17/97), has appeared in 42 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, earning 4-5=9 points. The 6-0, 180-pound right winger also earned 32-33=65 points with 28 penalty minutes (PIM) in 65 games during the 2017-18 American Hockey League (AHL) season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, leading the club in goals, assists and points. Sprong was named to the 2017-18 AHL All-Rookie Team and the AHL's All-Star Classic. His 32 goals set a new franchise rookie record, and tied him for second in goals in the AHL.

Selected by Pittsburgh in the second round (46th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Sprong played junior hockey with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL. In four seasons with Charlottetown, Sprong earned 117-144=261 points in 199 career QMJHL games from 2013-17. During the 2013-14 QMJHL season with Charlottetown, Sprong led the Islanders in all three scoring categories (30-38=68) en route to earning a spot on the QMJHL All-Rookie Team.
Pettersson, 22 (5/8/96), appeared in 49 NHL games with Anaheim over the last two seasons, earning 1-9=10 points with a +9 rating. The 6-3, 177-pound defenseman has represented Sweden in several international tournaments, including the 2016 World Junior Championship, 2014 U-18 World Championship and the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. Pettersson was selected by Anaheim in the second round (38th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
