The Ducks have acquired center Petteri Nokelainen from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Steve Montador.
Nokelainen, 23 (1/16/86), appeared in 33 games for the Bruins this season, collecting 0-3=3 points with 10 penalty minutes (PIM). The Imatra, Finland native ranked among Boston leaders in faceoffs (62.1%; 54-for-87) while averaging 9:40 time on ice (TOI) and 12.9 shifts per game.
Originally selected by the New York Islanders in the first round (16th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Nokelainen was acquired by Boston in exchange for Ben Walter and a conditional 2009 draft pick on Sept. 11, 2007. The 6-1, 195-pound center has appeared in 105 career NHL games between the Islanders and Bruins, scoring 8-7=15 points with 33 PIM. He set career highs with Boston last season in goals (7), assists (3), points (10), appearances (57) and PIM (19). Nokelainen also appeared in seven playoff games for the Bruins last year, earning 0-2=2 points with four PIM.
Montador, 29 (12/21/79), scored 4-16=20 points with a +14 rating and 125 PIM in 65 games with the Ducks this season. Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 11, 2008, Montador has played in 355 career NHL games between Calgary, Florida and Anaheim, collecting 18-49=67 points with a +8 rating and 586 PIM. In 2007-08 with the Panthers, Montador collected 8-15=23 points with a +1 rating and 73 PIM. He set career highs in most offensive categories last season, including goals, assists, points, power play goals (2) and shots (96).
