Ducks Acquire Geoff Platt from Columbus

The Ducks announced today that they have acquired center Geoff Platt from Columbus in exchange for defenseman Aaron Rome and left wing Clay Wilson.

Platt, 22 (7/10/85), has appeared in 15 contests this season for the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), collecting 4-3=7 points with six penalty minutes (PIM).  The Toronto, Ontario native has also appeared in 41 NHL contests with Columbus, earning 4-10=14 points with 26 PIM during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.  In three seasons with Syracuse, Platt has amassed 63-58=121 points with 124 PIM in 134 career AHL contests.  In 2006-07, he led the club in goals and finished third in points (28-21=49).  In addition, Platt appeared in six Calder Cup Playoff contests for Syracuse in 2005-06, earning 3-0=3 points.   

Originally signed by Columbus as a free agent on Nov. 25, 2005, the 5-9, 175-pound center also appeared in 248 career Ontario Hockey League (OHL) contests, earning 106-86=192 points with 270 PIM.  He scored 45-34=79 points in 68 games in 2004-05, ranking second in the league in goals and power play goals (20).  Platt will be assigned to Portland immediately.

Rome, 24 (9/27/83), has appeared in 14 contests this season with Portland, collecting 2-3=5 points with 31 PIM.  He made his NHL debut with Anaheim on Jan. 2, 2007 at Detroit, going scoreless.  He also appeared in one Stanley Cup Playoff contest with the Ducks last season, going scoreless.  Rome was signed as a free agent by Anaheim on June 7, 2004.  He was originally drafted by Los Angeles in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Wilson, 24 (4/5/83), has earned 3-5=8 points in 14 contests this season with Portland.  The Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota native has collected 22-66=88 points with 98 PIM in 153 career AHL appearances.  As a defenseman in 2006-07, he finished seventh in the AHL in scoring among blueliners and ranked third overall in scoring with the Pirates.  Wilson was originally signed as a free agent on July 11, 2006.
