The Ducks have acquired center Sam Carrick and left wing Spencer Abbott from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for left wing Kenton Helgesen and a seventh-round selection in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Carrick, 25 (2/4/92), has collected 1-1=2 points with 13 penalty minutes (PIM) in 19 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Carrick has appeared in 249 career American Hockey League (AHL) games with Toronto (2012-16) and Rockford (2016-17), recording 52-76=128 points with a +11 rating and 420 PIM. The 6-0, 207-forward has also played 36 career Calder Cup Playoff games, collecting 6-11=17 points with 33 PIM. He earned 11-17=28 points with 85 PIM in 57 games with Rockford this season, ranking tied for second among team leaders in scoring and third in goals.
Abbott, 28 (4/30/88), has appeared in two career NHL games with Toronto (2013-14) and Chicago (2016-17). He has played 240 career AHL games with Toronto and Rockford, registering 64-119=183 points with a +6 rating and 56 PIM. He has also collected 9-13=22 points with a +2 rating and six PIM in 29 career Calder Cup Playoff games. With 15-20=35 points and 14 PIM in 53 games this season, the 5-9, 170-pound forward led Rockford in scoring and goals, co-led in power-play goals (5) and ranked tied for second in assists.
Helgesen, 22 (3/19/94), has recorded 5-13=18 points with 54 PIM in 69 career ECHL games with the Utah Grizzlies (2015-17). The 6-3, 194-pound forward had 3-10=13 points with 13 PIM in 38 appearances with Utah this season, setting career highs in appearances, goals, assists and points. Selected by Anaheim in the seventh round (187th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Helgesen appeared in four ECHL playoff games with Utah in 2016.
