EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - The Phoenix Coyotes rookies defeated the Ducks rookies 3-1 in game two of the Pacific Division shootout on Saturday at the Toyota Sports Center.
Dirk Southern scored the lone goal for the Ducks who fell to 0-2 in the tournament.
Southern, who spent last season with Northern Michigan of the CCHA, gave the Ducks an early 1-0 lead after Scott Fletcher kept a clearing attempt inside the Coyotes' zone. Southern cleaned up the rebound of Fletcher's shot for his first goal of the tournament at 11:46 of the first period.
Phoenix answered on the power play less than a minute later when Enver Lisin beat Ducks netminder JP Levasseur at 12:45 of the first frame.
Martin Hanzal gave the Coyotes the lead at 12:29 of the second period.
Phoenix added insurance with a goal by Bill Thomas to cap the scoring for the Coyotes.
The Ducks will face the San Jose Sharks on Monday at 4 p.m.
