Carter Scores in Team USA Loss in World Championships

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
Ducks center Ryan Carter scored a tying goal in the third period, but his Team USA squad fell 2-1 in overtime in front of a record crowd at Veletin Arena in the first game of the 2010 World Championships in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The announced crowd of 77,803 in what is normally an indoor soccer arena surpassed the 74,554 for a 2001 college game between Michigan and Michigan State.

Carter tied the game 1-1 at 8:28 of the third period when he was credited with the goal during a scramble in the crease. But Germany prevailed when Felix Schutz redirected a shot past United States goalie Scott Clemmensen 21 seconds into overtime.

Corey Perry and his Team Canada unit play Italy tomorrow in Mannheim, Germany. Carter and Team USA will try to get their first win on Monday against Denmark on Cologne.
