Canada took a step backward on Sunday at the IIHF World Championships in Germany with a 3-1 loss to Sweden.
The Swedes took the lead early, getting a goal at the 2:35 mark of the first period from Johan Harju. Two goals in a span of 3:04 from Jonas Andersson put Canada in a three-goal deficit it could not overcome. The lone goal for the Canadians was scored by Capitals forward Brooks Laich following a nice deke move on Swedish goalie Jonas Gustavsson.
Ducks forward Corey Perry
, who entered the game tied for third in the tournament with six points, did not score in 18:54 of playing time. Team Canada (3-2-0) will next play on Tuesday, when they take on the Czech Republic.
