CGY@ANA: Tkachuk gives Flames 4-3 shootout victory

ANAHEIM -- Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist for the Calgary Flames in a 4-3 shootout win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday.

Blake Coleman and Elias Lindholm scored, and Dan Vladar made 31 saves and stopped both attempts in the shootout for the Flames (15-4-5), who extended their road point streak to eight (6-0-2).
"We stuck around and got the extra point there in the end, so it's a big one," Monahan said.
Sonny Milano, Rickard Rakell and Vinni Lettieri scored, and John Gibson made 33 saves for the Ducks (13-8-4), who had won three of four.
"We have some room for improvement still and that's a good feeling to have," Rakell said. "We played good so far, but we have another level."
Vladar is 5-0-1 in six starts this season with a .939 save percentage. He has saved 86 of 89 shots in his past three games.
"Obviously it means a lot, but as I've said before, I don't want to get too high from it," Vladar said. "I go into every game, I know it's 0-0, and the other team, I'm pretty sure they don't care if I'm 5-0-1 or 0-6."
Lettieri scored on a one-timer from Trevor Zegras while on the power play to tie it 3-3 at 2:04 of the third period.
Lettieri was in the lineup because Ryan Getzlaf missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury. He's week to week.
"We came out and played much, much better in the third," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "It was a good reset."

CGY@ANA: Monahan beats Gibson alone from in close

After the Ducks failed to score in the first period for the fourth straight game, they scored quickly in the second period.
Zegras took a shot from just inside the blue line that rattled through traffic before Milano chipped the loose puck in the net for a 1-0 lead at 54 seconds.
Coleman scored his first goal in 17 games when he finished off a 3-on-2 rush to tie it 1-1 at 3:49.
Milano couldn't control the puck near his own blue line and Lindholm took it away before getting it back and scoring his 10th goal of the season on the short side for a 2-1 lead at 10:20.
Monahan moved the Flames ahead 3-1 at 15:10, scoring in front to end a 12-game goal drought.
"If it's not coming, if it's not working, you've just got to grind through it," Monahan said. "You don't want to get frustrated because then you lose other aspects of your game. You've just got to stick with it and build your confidence up slowly."
Rakell scored off a feed from Isac Lundestrom to cut it to 3-2 at 19:24.
"The second period, we got away from our game, and that's also a reminder too, that if we want to be an elite team, we have to play a certain way," Eakins said. "If we're not going to do it to a man, then we're going to very quickly get into trouble. I think our group has learned enough lessons, and it's time to take another step forward."

CGY@ANA: Lindholm nets Gaudreau return pass in close

Ducks forward Adam Henrique was slow to get up after a check by Erik Gudbranson just before the end of the first period. Henrique left in the second period with a lower-body injury.
"That is a big, strong, hard hockey team," Eakins said of the Flames. "You can see why they're winning a lot of games."
NOTES:Vladar had a shutout streak of 140:54 end on Milano's goal. ... Zegras had two assists to give him 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in the past 10 games. ... Milano has 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in his past 14 games.
