The Anaheim Lady Ducks 12 & under Ice Hockey team earned the BRONZE Medal at the USAHockey National Championships last week in Buffalo, NY. The Lady Ducks, part of the Junior Ducks and Anaheim Amateur Hockey Association are the first Junior Ducks team, boys’ or girls’, to earn a medal at a National Championships.
The Lady Ducks went 6-0 at the Pacific District Championships in San Jose to earn their second consecutive birth to the Nationals. In the Pacific regional event the Lady Ducks scored 31 goals and only allowed 2 on their way to defeating all other California and Alaskan Girls’ teams they faced. This qualified them to represent the West Coast in the Hockey USA National Womens/Girls Tournament held in Buffalo, NY from March 29 through April 2.
The West Coast team may not have been expected to get very far, with very few 12 year olds on the roster, but quickly became the talk of the Tournament. On successive days they defeated teams from Denver, CO 4-2, Buffalo, NY 8-1, Rochester NY 6-0, and Team Illinois 4-3 in OT in the quarterfinals. They won each of these games taking them to the semifinals against perennial tournament powerhouse Assabet Valley of Massachusetts. The Lady Ducks tied them in regulation in an exciting and end to end game. The girls played hard but lost in overtime 2-1 winning the Bronze Medal as the third best girls 12 & under ice hockey team in the Nation.
The Lady Ducks train and play out of the Anaheim Ice in Anaheim, CA. They represented the City of Anaheim and the Mighty Ducks with class and amazing athletic ability. The Lady Ducks offer hockey programs for girls 6 to 16 years of age.
Congratulations to the Lady Ducks!!!
