“We’re very excited to extend the Anaheim Ducks brand to John Wayne Airport and the thousands of travelers that will pass through the terminal on a daily basis,” said Ducks Vice President of Multi-Media and Community Development Aaron Teats. “We eagerly await next month’s opening and look forward to providing travelers with not only a superb dining experience, but also a prime setting for watching Ducks hockey and other live sports.”
The Ducks become the first Southern California professional sports team and just the third NHL club to open a franchise-themed restaurant concept at a metropolitan-area airport (also “Sharks Cage” at Mineta San Jose International Airport and “Blackhawks Restaurant” at Chicago O’Hare International Airport). The club summoned fan input for the creation of the restaurant’s name and after a fan-wide vote from five finalists chosen from over 2,400 entries in June, the Anaheim Ducks Breakaway Bar & Grill had its moniker. Guests at the Breakaway Bar & Grill will enjoy familiar surroundings, as restaurant décor includes memorabilia that celebrates the history and success of the Anaheim Ducks, including its Stanley Cup championship in 2007. Historical team highlights and live sporting events will be broadcast on the nine flat-panel HD television screens throughout the restaurant. Los Angeles-based Flex Designs, Inc. worked closely with Ducks personnel to create a sense of comfort and familiarity for local fans and world travelers alike at this 2,280-square foot eatery (94-seat occupancy).
Anaheim Ducks Breakaway Bar & Grill patrons will have an optimal runway-facing view in Terminal C, the only such restaurant location at the airport. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will also have a children’s menu available. With multiple sources of inspiration, the menu is a combination of upscale bar favorites (Spicy Wings, Angus Beef Burger, Turkey Club Sandwich, Sweet Potato Fries), South-of-the-Border flavors (Chicken, Black Bean and Corn Quesadilla, Chilaquiles, Shrimp Tacos) as well as fresh, California-infused cuisine (California Cobb Salad, Charcuterie plate and Flatbread Pizzas). Hand-crafted signature cocktails of both the alcohol and non-alcohol variety will be poured at the Ducks-themed bar. Guests will have wide selection of draught beers, wine varietals and premium liquor. Freshly-prepared dessert options are also available, including the signature Peanut Butter Moon Pie.
