The Ducks today announced that the club’s Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSHL) will host ‘Hockey Day in Southern California’ on Saturday, Sept. 6 at THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE. September 6th marks the season opener for the league’s top division, Varsity 1, which includes seven teams from Southern and Northern California.
‘Hockey Day in Southern California’ features three Varsity 1 games at Anaheim ICE, beginning at 11:30 a.m. when Santa Margarita hosts Servite. ‘Hockey Day in Southern California’ continues with JSerra taking on Orange Lutheran at 1:30 p.m. before Edison and Damien play the finale at 3:30 p.m.
The day will consist of several surprises from the Anaheim Ducks including several guest appearances. All fans are urged to come out and witness this historical day in high school hockey.
The ADHSHL added 13 new teams and increased to five divisions for the 2014-15 season, including the newly-created Western Prep Hockey League. Forty-one teams from 27 schools are participating this season, including teams hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) was added in 2009 and joined by Servite High (Anaheim), Damien High (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) in 2010-11. The ADHSHL increased to 11 teams in 2011-12, 14 teams in 2012-13, 28 teams in 2013-14 and 41 teams in 2014-15. As the league continues to grow, the Anaheim Ducks will continue to provide financial support for each team involved in the program.
