The Anaheim Ducks today announced the 2010 Inline Hockey Junior Olympics Presented by Reebok will open this Thursday, July 1 at THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline. Opening Day also features a special appearance by the “Live” Baby T. Rex dinosaur as part of WALKING WITH DINOSAURS – The Arena Spectacular, coming to Honda Center Sept. 1-5
The 2010 Inline Hockey Junior Olympics Presented by Reebok in partnership with the Ducks, Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), Team USA Hockey Club and USA Rollersports, will be headquartered at Huntington Beach Inline from July 1-11, marking the first time in tournament history the event will be held west of the Mississippi River. In addition, 949 Roller Hockey Center in Irvine will also host games throughout the 11-day event, which will see approximately 2,500 athletes representing 250 teams from seven different countries participate.
The tournament kicks off Thursday, July 1 with international exhibition games beginning at 7 a.m. and round robin games starting at 11 a.m. Later that day, Baby T. Rex will make three special appearances at Huntington Beach Inline at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Admission to the tournament is free, as are the performances of Baby T. Rex. Tournament games will be played throughout the day and evening, concluding with the day’s final match at 11 p.m.
The AAU hosted its first Inline Junior Olympics in 1996, consisting of 20 teams competing within one age group. The tournament now features numerous age groups and divisions with approximately 50 international teams traveling to Southern California from countries as far away as China (Hong Kong), New Zealand, Great Britain, Germany, Canada and Colombia.
Huntington Beach Inline is an original member of the Anaheim Ducks’ THE RINKS development program. With a program launch in February 2009, the Ducks now operate four local skating facilities consisting of two ice rinks (THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE and THE RINKS – Westminster ICE) and two inline facilities (THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline and THE RINKS – Corona Inline).
