The Ducks will spend a special evening away from the ice this Friday, Nov. 18 when the club hosts its 12th annual Dux in Tux presented by Honda at The Westin South Coast Plaza. The Anaheim Ducks Foundation will serve as the beneficiary of this perennially popular event featuring the entire Ducks roster serving as waiters and “celebrity sous chefs.” Supporters of this sold-out event ($250 per plate) will enjoy a unique culinary experience, prepared by 23 of Orange County’s top chefs, each of whom has donated their time to the cause. The evening’s program will include the recognition of an exceptional teacher and six outstanding students from the local community through the Dux in Tux S.C.O.R.E. Awards. The Ducks S.C.O.R.E. (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation & Education) program is a primary program facilitated by the Anaheim Ducks Foundation.
“We were truly overwhelmed by this year’s response to our sold out event,” said Ducks Director of Community Relations Wendy Yamagishi. “In addition to meeting our players and enjoying dinner prepared by the finest local chefs in the business, our supporters will also get to meet students who benefit directly from funds raised at Dux in Tux each year.”
All local chefs featured at Dux in Tux have created a distinctive menu for their individual table (complete list of participants included below). A Ducks player will be paired with each chef to assist in meal preparation tableside for their guests. In addition, all players will be outfitted in matching tuxedos courtesy of Friar Tux shop, doubling as waiters for their respective tables. The evening will begin with a V.I.P. reception at 6 p.m., followed by a general reception at 6:30 p.m. and a seated dinner program at 7:30 p.m. A variety of silent auction items will be available for bidding during the general reception, including autographed player jerseys with the “24” patch in memory of former Duck Ruslan Salei to benefit the Anaheim Ducks Foundation. Ducks television analyst Brian Hayward and Ducks television host Kent French will co-emcee the event and French will also serve as live auctioneer for some of the top prizes of the evening, including an NHL Winter Classic package and an Anaheim Ducks Road Trip package.
The evening’s main program will highlight six students through the S.C.O.R.E. All-Star Awards, bestowed upon students who embody the spirit of Sportsmanship, Character, Optimism, Respect and Effort (SCORE). The six recipients participated in the S.C.O.R.E. program as fourth-graders during the 2010-11 school year and were invited to attend Dux in Tux as special guests of the Ducks. Those students include: Brian Vinluan (Carnelian Elementary), Cassidy Latchford (Wagon Wheel Elementary), Jessica Cho (Hermosa Drive Elementary), Katrina Aranda (San Marino Elementary), Joseph Dale Layones (Ramona Elementary) and Samuel Serrano (Sierra Vista Elementary). In addition, the Ducks will honor fourth-grade teacher Dorothy Kelly of Sierra Vista Elementary with the S.C.O.R.E. Captain Award. Each year, the S.C.O.R.E. Captain award is presented to a teacher or educator who exemplifies the mission of the Anaheim Ducks Foundation through his or her work within the S.C.O.R.E. program. About the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Program
The award-winning Ducks S.C.O.R.E. program offers free educational standards-based curriculum to students through in-class and physical education. The program was developed in 2005 with the goal of making a positive impact with youth in local schools and hockey communities throughout Southern California. Based on the team’s goals in the community and through funding from the Anaheim Ducks Foundation, Ducks S.C.O.R.E. has been made free of charge to all its participants. The program uses the sport of hockey to teach educational themes, encourage healthy and active living, reinforce the importance of positive character building, and reward youth for their dedication of pursuing academic excellence. Through its initiatives, Ducks S.C.O.R.E. has contributed to the educational landscape within traditional and non-traditional settings while impacting over 25,000 students annually.
