Travis Zajac (lower body) and Adam Henrique (upper body) will miss tonight’s game at Nassau Coliseum, Devils’ general manager Lou Lamoriello announced today.
Neither forward made the trip to Long Island after sustaining injuries in last night’s shootout loss to Detroit at Prudential Center.
"There’s nothing of any long-term situation,” Lamoriello said. "They could be back as quick as the first of the week. So it’s just the recommendation of the trainer to not play them back to back [nights]."
Henrique had two assists against the Red Wings for his fourth multi-point outing of the season. Tied for second on the club with 14 points, he averaged a point a game (2g-3a) in his first five games back from a lower-body injury that had shelved him for six contests from Nov. 6-15.
Zajac will miss his first game of the season.
The Devils will not make any recalls from Albany (AHL) for tonight’s game. Damien Brunner has been a healthy scratch in the last four games; Jordin Tootoo in the last six.
Lamoriello also updated that defenseman Jon Merrill (arm, 12 games missed) should be cleared “any day now. He’ll start practicing on Monday.” Bryce Salvador (lower body, eight games missed ) and Ryane Clowe (hit to head, 10 games missed) have not resumed skating.
Tonight’s contest opens a three-game trip that continues Tuesday in Pittsburgh and Thursday in Toronto.
