Sami Vatanen was acquired by New Jersey on November 30, 2017 in a trade with Anaheim and it's been quite a year for the defenseman.
He played his first game with the Devils in Arizona, just one day after the trade.
He joined the team when they were on a three-game road trip and practiced for the first time in New Jersey on December 7, 2017 and played his first game at Prudential Center the next night.
And on December 27, 2017, he netted his first goal as a Devil.
During episode 4 of 82 Game Odyssey presented by Investors Bank last year, he talked about the trade and becoming a Devil.
Fast forward one year, and Vatanen reflects on the last year, playing for Anaheim, and the difference between the two teams he's played for.
One thing's for sure, when he is back on the West Coast, you can catch him at his favorite restaurant, Selanne's Steakhouse in Laguna Beach, California. One of the owners of the restaurant also happens to be Vatanen's favorite player growing up, former teammate and Hall of Famer, Teemu Selanne.
Vatanen started playing hockey at the age of five and played soccer and hockey while growing up in Finland. If he wasn't a hockey player, he'd be a professional golfer - which also happens to be his favorite hobby. Although we couldn't snag a photo of him and him pup, Morko, we know that we can always count on him to put smiles on fans' faces.
