White wins Wednesday scrimmage, 4-1

by Eric Marin / New Jersey Devils

With the ink barely dry on his new long-term contract, Travis Zajac scored twice in Wednesday's mixed New Jersey/Albany scrimmage at training camp.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored on a 5-on-3 advantage and set up a Zajac power play goal. David Clarkson also lit the lamp for White in the victory.

First-round pick Stefan Matteau beat Martin Brodeur on the power play for Red's only goal of the afternoon. Johan Hedberg was in net for Red.

Jacob Josefson scrimmaged one day after his first practice at camp and centered Mathieu Darche and Bobby Butler. The other lines for White were Dainius Zubrus - Zajac - Kovalchuk, Mattias Tedenby - Patrik Elias - David Clarkson, and Ryan Carter - Stephen Gionta - Steve Bernier.

White's D pairings were Andy Greene - Mark Fayne, Bryce Salvador - Marek Zidlicky, and Anton Volchenkov - Peter Harrold. Henrik Tallinder and Adam Larsson were a pairing for Red.

White was coached by Devils' assistants Scott Stevens, Dave Barr and Matt Shaw. Albany head coach Rick Kowalsky and assistant Tommy Albelin handled the Red bench.
