Joey Anderson, drafted 73rd overall in 2016 to New Jersey, was called up to the Devils from the AHL on Oct. 26 to play in his first NHL game on Oct. 27 in Newark.
Since then, he has played in three games, Oct. 27, Nov. 1, and Nov. 5, and recorded his first ever NHL point Monday night in the Devils 5-1 victory over Pittsburgh. Will Butcher fired a shot from the circle off a pass from Anderson just 2:24 into the first frame.
After the game, Anderson was awarded the helmet for earning his first NHL point. The helmet is given to the player who is the unsung hero of each game. The rookie was proud to wear it after Monday's win.
Anderson not only walked away with the helmet, but also with the puck he recorded his first ever NHL point with.
If those two highlights weren't enough - he also earned an emoji via Keith Kinkaid's kinkode. The post-game tweet showed Anderson as a kangaroo, or for a rookie, a joey.
