Tunin' up: Devils share favorite country songs

by Eric Marin / New Jersey Devils

With Country Night set for Tuesday's meeting with Nashville at Prudential Center, four of the Devils’ biggest country fans weighed in with their music picks for the big night. Get tickets to the game here.

Travis Zajac

Friends in Low Places – Garth Brooks

"My parents listened to Garth Brooks and country growing up. That’s why I got into country. [Winnipeg] is more country than anything, or it was back then."

Talladega – Eric Church

Where the Green Grass Grows – Tim McGraw

Adam Henrique (with help from Zajac)

A Woman Like You – Lee Brice

Henrique: “Sets the mood. It’s good for a little background music. Nice song. My cousin’s husband actually sang it at their wedding. It was pretty good.”

Zajac: "Good song."

Henrique: "Luke Bryan–"

Zajac: "Luke Bryan’s got a lot of good songs."

Henrique [to Zajac]: "What’s that one? What’s the summer album they had going there? She Get Me High [by Luke Bryan]. Classic. Just a great song all around. It’s gotten overlooked in my playlists though because I keep buying songs and it just gets pushed back. Gotta get that one back in the repertoire.

“Oooh, We Are Tonight by Billy Currington. That’s a good one. Friday Night, Eric Paslay. That’s a good one. Or you could go back and throw some CCR in there, Unfortunate Son… they’re always classic.”

You good with all of those?

Henrique: "Tim Hicks… Get By."

We don’t need a hundred songs.

Henrique: “Hey I’m just trying to help out here. We gotta get the crowd going early in the game."

He’s already up to six, Travis.

Zajac: "Who do you have so far?"

Eric Paslay?

I just picture myself sitting in a lawn chair, knee deep in the water somewhere. It’s hard not to smile when you hear that.Mark Fraser

Zajac: "Friday Night? Good song."

Henrique: "Eric Church is great. Springsteen by Eric Church."

Zajac: “Oh, Springsteen. Put Springsteen instead of Talladega for me.

You can’t both have it.

Henrique: "Chevy Van.

A different Eric Church?

Henrique: “Yes, Chevy Van… Eric Church."

Zajac: “Homeboy [by Eric Church].”

Henrique: “Homeboy is great."

Zajac: "We should just do the top three Eric Church songs."

Henrique: “Carolina [by Eric Church]."

Zajac [singing]: “Carolina.”

Did you know Eric Church is playing here?

Henrique: "Is it May 2?"

(Yes. Click here for more info.)

Henrique: "Creepin’ by Eric Church is a classic."

That’s already a good-sized list.

Zajac: "Add Wave On Wave by Pat Green."

Henrique: "Aw, yeah! Wow. That’s just throwing it back there. That’s great. That’s back when I used to sit on my computer at home and play ping-pong."

Jordin Tootoo

"I Don’t Dance, Lee Brice, obviously. (Tootoo’s wedding song). Luke Bryan… Roller Coaster. Did I say Dierks Bentley? What Was I Thinking?… Want me to sing a line? [singing] What was I thinkin’?"

Mark Fraser

"I’ve got Zac Brown Band, Chicken Fried. Wagon Wheel by Darius [Rucker]. And Zac Brown featuring Jimmy Buffett, Knee Deep.

"I don’t know how I stumbled across Knee Deep, but man, it put me in a great mood. The chorus, I just picture myself sitting in a lawn chair, knee deep in the water somewhere. It’s hard not to smile when you hear that."
