Topping out ceremony set for The Courtyard by Marriott at Prudential Center

Newark, NJ – February 1, 2012 – Mayor Cory A. Booker, the Newark Municipal Council, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Brick City Development Corporation Chairman Adam Zipkin and New Jersey Devils Chairman and Managing Partner Jeff Vanderbeek will join Tucker Development Corporation President Richard Tucker at a topping out ceremony for the new Courtyard by Marriott at the Prudential Center Hotel onThursday, February 2, at 11 a.m., at the corner of Broad Street and Lafayette Street in Newark’s Downtown.
After the speaking portion of the ceremony, Mayor Booker and Deputy Mayor Zipkin will be escorted to the roof of the building to join President Tucker for the ceremonial raising of the American flag, followed by the raising of an evergreen branch, which symbolizes good luck and economic prosperity.
Developed by Tucker Development Corporation, the Courtyard by Marriott at the Prudential Center in Newark is a mixed-use hotel and retail development that will be the first new hotel in the City’s downtown in over 40 years. Marriott International will manage the hotel, and approximately 14,000 square feet of ground floor retail space will be leased and managed by Tucker.
This new, mixed-use development is located adjacent to the Prudential Center, home to the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils and the National Basketball Association’s New Jersey Nets. The Prudential Center hosts approximately 200 sporting, concert and family events every year.
