With less than a month to go before the New Jersey Devils take the ice for their first preseason game of the 2015-16 season and single game tickets on sale starting September 1, here is a look at the Top 10 games to check out at Prudential Center this season.
10.) Halloween (October 31 @ 1 p.m.)
The New York Islanders come to town on Halloween for the team’s first afternoon start since a win over Pittsburgh on New Year’s Eve in 2013. Children 14 and under will receive a special gift as Prudential Center opens its concourse for trick-or-treating and a kids costume contest.
9.) Kids Day (February 6 @ 1 p.m.)
A Sunday matinee for the whole family as the Devils take on the Washington Capitals. The first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Mike Cammalleri bobblehead, and kids can enjoy games and activities on the concourse.
8.) Pittsburgh Penguins (November 14 @ 7 p.m.)
New Devils general manager Ray Shero and head coach John Hynes welcome their former Penguins colleagues to Newark for the first time since they’ve called Prudential Center home.
7.) Retro Night (February 16 @ 7 p.m.) and St. Patrick’s Day (March 17 @ 7 p.m.)
The Devils will break out the Red and Green retro jerseys twice this season. In February the team will celebrate the ‘80s and its first years in New Jersey by hosting the Flyers on Retro Night. A month later, the Devils will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by trying to keep former captain Zach Parise winless at The Rock as the Wild come to town.
6.) Chicago Blackhawks (November 6 @ 7 p.m.)
It’s always a special night when the defending champions come to town. A consistent powerhouse coached by former Devils defenseman Joel Quenneville, the teams’ first matchup of the season will be an early look at how the Devils will compete against the league’s elite.
5.) Firefighter (December 4@ 7 p.m.) and Police (March 25 @ 7 p.m.) Appreciation Nights
The Devils will honor New Jersey’s firefighters throughout the game as they host the Flyers on December 4th. Then, at the final Friday game of the season, the Devils will honor the Garden State’s police while battling the Flyers on March 25th.
4.) Opening Night (October 9 @ 7 p.m.)
An offseason of change comes to an end as the Winnipeg Jets make their only visit to the Garden State this season. While it may be an early chance to see 2015 first round draft pick Pavel Zacha in action, it will definitely be an exciting night as fans see the debut of Shero and Hynes’ new system and the future identity of the Devils.
3.) Marty Comes Home & Military Appreciation Night (November 10 @ 7 p.m.)
The Devils will celebrate Military Appreciation Night as they take on the defending Central Division Champion St. Louis Blues. This game also marks legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur’s first trip to Prudential Center as part of Blues’ organization after joining the team’s front office last season.
2.) Lou Returns & Fan Appreciation Night (April 9 @ 7 p.m.)
The Devils close the regular season with a night dedicated to the fans. Adding to the drama of the finale and its potential playoff implications, this game marks the first time Toronto comes to Prudential Center with Lou Lamoriello as general manager. Now that Lamoriello has swapped Red and Black for Blue and White, the significance of this game is off the charts…
1.) New York Rangers (February 2 @ 7 p.m. and February 23 @ 7 p.m.)
…but not as far off as these two games. Let’s go Devils!
