Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Rockets are pleased to announce the return of its Jersey Hockey Fights Hunger Program. The joint program, held in partnership with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey now in its fifth season, seeks to address the needs of the hungry throughout New Jersey. This year the program hopes to expand by inviting youth and junior hockey teams throughout the state of New Jersey to participate.
During the period of November 5th-11th, collection centers will be set up at rinks across the state of New Jersey. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to make financial contributions to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. As an added incentive, the team that collects the greatest combined amount of food items and dollars will enjoy a special, suite night at a future New Jersey Devils home game at Prudential Center. Furthermore, organizations that meet a minimum food/dollar contribution total will be entered into a raffle for an additional two fully catered suite nights at Prudential Center for a New Jersey Devils home game to be determined.
“The AMHL is proud to be associated with this important community program,” commented AMHL President Gene Palecco. “The member organizations of the AMHL have a chance to show that we are more than just a hockey league – we are an organization that teaches our young people to be socially aware that there are others less fortunate that need help. It’s a great message for our teams to receive and share.”
“Although we promote giving for the sake of helping the needy, we’ve added the special incentive as a thank you for the serious commitment youth hockey teams demonstrate for this cause,” said New Jersey Rockets executive Peggy Del Mauro. “It is with the generosity of the New Jersey Devils organization that we are able to make such a large impact in aiding the needy of our communities. It is a great thing for the young people to see that the Devils recognize their efforts/commitment. We can’t wait for the Jersey Hockey Fights Hunger program to begin, and we know how successful and rewarding it will be.”
“The New Jersey Devils are pleased to lend their support to Jersey Hockey Fights Hunger for the fifth year,” said Jeff Vanderbeek, Chairman and Managing Partner New Jersey Devils. “This is a great way for the young men and women who are part of the New Jersey Rockets to learn about leadership off the ice while helping give back to their communities.”
