by Amanda Stein amandacstein / NewJerseyDevils.com

Here we are, with just four games left in the season. Some days it feels like the season has truly flown by and so much has happened. The overall results have been disappointing, but there has also been a huge degree of maturation and important experience. Through the highs and lows, we've seen the emergence of new players, rookies standing up and making a difference, making cases for themselves for next season. And some of the young veterans are making pushes to reach or surpass their career highs in all different categories.

We break it all down this week in 10 Takeaways:

10 TAKEAWAYS: Managing the Moments

A difficult road trip offered a big moment of leadership for the Devils young core

by Amanda Stein amandacstein / NewJerseyDevils.com

The Devils 2020-21 regular season is winding down with just nine games left on the schedule. The team just returned home from a road trip with three games against Pittsburgh and one against Philadelphia. It was difficult, no doubt, with just one point (a shootout loss to the Flyers) over the course of the trip.

It was a challenge, it was difficult and it also offered this new young leadership group assembled by the Devils their first major moment of rallying the team. As Miles Wood shared, the leadership group called a team meeting and that's where we start this week's 10 Takeaways.

by Amanda Stein amandacstein / NewJerseyDevils.com

Sometimes certain stories fly under the radar. A lot goes on during any given day of the hockey season and sometimes little nuggets of insight and information may get lost in the fold. This week I went back and listened to a lot of the interviews conducted and picked out a couple of good storylines that didn't get much exposure. On top of that, there were a lot of smiles among the Devils' newest players this week, first games, first goal and a first contract. All that, in this week's 10 Takeaways.

10 Takeaways: Facing The Facts

Lindy Ruff is willing to be honest and open as the schedule caught up to the Devils

by Amanda Stein amandacstein / NewJerseyDevils.com

The longest road trip of the year comes to a close tonight against the Bruins and it has been an eventful week on the road. When Ty Smith registered his 17th assist of the season on Sunday, I began to think to myself how can a young defenseman, making an impact on the roster, be highly considered for a Calder Trophy? Those generally, as you'll see below, go to rookies with the most points, more often than not a forward. And just as I was thinking about that, standing at ice level just to the right of Mackenzie Blackwood's net, Mackenzie made the most incredible save with the tip of his toe.

There was a lot to consider from the game against Boston, but also the past week.

10 TAKEAWAYS: The Bright Side

Regardless of results, there are glimpses that the best is yet to come

by Amanda Stein amandacstein / NewJerseyDevils.com

It's been great to be home for six straight nights so far.

These days it's rare to get more than a couple of nights in a row in your own bed.

Hopefully, it's a chance to refresh a little, live in your own surroundings, and gear up for the second half of the season. With three out of a possible six points in the last three games, there are glimpses of a team figuring themselves out, whether it's the power play slowly finding its way, a greatly improved penalty kill, and the emergence of a line with two 22-year-olds and the oldest member of the Devils roster, there is plenty to delve into and numbers to crunch in this edition of 10 Takeaways.

A five-game skid was snapped in the Devils most recent game, putting a tough week behind them

by Amanda Stein amandacstein / NewJerseyDevils.com

Something had to give, and it did on Sunday evening in Boston. The Devils finally putting their five-game slide to an end, and in a hard-fought, dig-in and win kind of way. Against the Boston Bruins no less. But before that performance, it wasn't an easy week, that's for sure but we still have to dig into it in this week's Ten Takeaways.
