Storm Chasers!

The New Jersey Devils scored three goals in the third period on Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes in a 5-2 victory. The win creates a three-point gap between the Devils and Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference standings.

Here are 10 takeaways from the game:
1. Keith Kinkaid made a second straight appearance in net for the Devils. He earned his first point of the season, an assist on the Devils' fourth goal of the game, and stopped 25 of 27 shots that came his way.
Kinkaid has strong numbers against the Hurricanes over his career. He is 5-1-0 against Carolina in six appearances.
2. Damon Severson was the first to strike for the Devils. His ninth goal of the season tied the game at 1-1 with just 18.8 seconds left in the first period.

Seconds after killing their second penalty of the period, Severson rushed down the right side and took a shot from the right circle. The puck ricocheted off the left post and into the net. Severson's ninth even-strength goal of the season puts him third among NHL defensemen for even -trength goals. Nico Hischier assisted on the goal, his 25th assist and 35th point this season.
3. Stefan Noesen gave the Devils their first lead of the night at 6:48 of the second period. Travis Zajac took the initial shot on Hurricanes goaltender Scott Darling, who gave up the rebound. The puck found its way into the blue paint next to Darling, with Noesen beating him to the puck to tap it home for a 2-1 lead. Noesen would later add the Devils' fifth goal of the game.

4. Zajac played in his 819th game for the New Jersey Devils. The mark puts Zajac in a tie with Jay Pandolfo for sixth all-time in Devils franchise history among skaters.
5. Kyle Palmieri played in his 200th game with the Devils on Thursday night. Palmieri now has more games played with New Jersey than with the Anaheim Ducks, who drafted him back in 2009. Palmieri played 198 games for the Ducks over the course of five years.
6. Palmieri gave the Devils their second lead of the game when he shot in a puck through traffic. Hischier picked up his second assist of the night when he took the puck from behind the net and brought it around the right post into traffic at 17:28 of the second period.
The Hurricanes challenged the goal for goaltender interference but it was quickly ruled a good goal that gave the Devils a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
Hischier and John Moore added the assists on the play.
7. Hischier would not stop at just adding assists. He scored on an odd-man rush with Palmieri at 8:06 of the third period. Instead of passing to the veteran, Hischier showed poise and confidence in his own abilities as his shot beat Darling cleanly.

One likely and another unlikely suspect picked up the assists on the goal: Kinkaid and Hall added the helpers.
8. Hall's point streak continued into its 16th straight game. Hall registered the assist on Thursday night bringing his point total to 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points over 16 games.
9. The Devils now have 29 wins this NHL season in 57 games. The 29 wins pass the 28 overall victories the Devils accumulated during the 2016-17 NHL season.
10. Head coach John Hynes is now the proud owner of his 95th career victory behind the Devils bench. Hynes has a career record of 95-96-30 through the 221 games he's coached for New Jersey.
