Six things to know for tonight's game in Detroit: 1.
The Devils continue their three-game road trip and close out their second of 18 back-to-backs tonight. Last night in St. Louis, they opened a stretch in which 15 of their next 20 games will be played away from The Rock. New Jersey won’t play consecutive games at Prudential Center until Dec. 17-23.2.
Tonight’s contest is the first of three between the Devils and Red Wings, and the first of two to be played at Joe Louis Arena. Detroit won last season’s series, 2-1-0. The Devils are 1-10-0 at the Joe since the start of the 1997-98 season (Apr. 5, 2012).
3. Jaromir Jagr is expected to appear in his 1,487th game tonight and tie Wayne Gretzky for 17th all-time. Jagr (2g-7a) recorded an assist last night in St. Louis and is tied with Adam Henrique and Michael Ryder (both 4g-5a) for the team points lead (9).
4. Ryder (2g) notched his first multi-goal game as a Devil last night and now now has four points (3g-1a) in his last four games. He posted a team-high five shots on goal, giving him 12 in his last two contests.
5. Cory Schneider (6-5-2) will make his 14th straight start tonight. Martin Brodeur is the only Devils goaltender to start more consecutive games to open a season (19, 2001-02; 17, 2002-03).
6. Jon Merrill (arm) has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 1 (vs. Columbus). The 22-year-old blueliner has a power-play goal and three assists in 11 games this season.
