Cory Schneider will get the start in goal for tonight's preseason finale against the Flyers at Prudential Center.
The Devils (3-2) are looking to close out the exhibition on a high note before beginning the regular season in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
"I think this isn't about one game, it's about the body of work and the entire camp," head coach Peter DeBoer said. "For me, I'm at the point now where I'm spending a lot of time looking at our team game and our systems and chemistry between guys."
Schneider has allowed just one goal in the preseason while stopping 70 of 71 shots he's faced. On Tuesday, his shutout streak reached 158:29 before he allowed a goal to Kimmo Timonen in Tuesday's 2-1 win in Philadelphia.
Schneider know the real test doesn't start until next week, when the games will count.
"It's not an indicator as to how the season's going to go, by any means," Schneider said. "It's just way too long a year and too many ups and downs. But it's better than starting the year not with your best game."
DeBoer knew what the Devils were getting when they acquired Schneider over the summer.
"He's come as advertised," DeBoer said. "I don't think there's any surprise. He's had an excellent preseason, but we knew we were getting a world-class goalie."
Martin Brodeur was expected to start the finale, but will miss tonight's game (personal reasons).
