MONTREAL - Despite taking an early lead, the Devils picked up just one point against the Canadiens in overtime.

The Canadiens struck in overtime, and the Devils' record dropped to 17-9-5.
Here are 10 takeaways from the game.
1. Nick Lappin made his season debut after being called up from Binghamton on Wednesday afternoon. Lappin joined the Devils after Taylor Hall's knee contusion kept him out of the lineup.
In his season debut, Lappin played 10:02 and registered two shots on net.
2. With Hall out of the lineup, coach John Hynes was forced to make some tweaks to his lineup. Here is how the Devils began their matchup against the Canadiens:
Bratt-Hischier-Stafford
Coleman-Zajac-Gibbons
Hayes-Boyle-Lappin
Wood-Zacha-Noesen
Moore-Vatanen
Greene-Santini
Butcher-Severson
3. The game was not even two minutes old when the Devils took a 1-0 lead on the Canadiens. Jesper Bratt and Andy Greene helped set up Stefan Noesen for his third of the season at 1:21 of the first. Noesen now has points (2g-4a) in a career-high five consecutive games.

4. Pavel Zacha left towards the end of the first period when he was hit in the face with a puck. Zacha went down the Devils' tunnel and into the locker room for the remainder of the period. He returned to start the second, and finished the game playing 14:41.
5. The Devils found themselves with a two-man advantage for 1:05 early in the second period when the Canadiens had both Karl Alzner and Byron Froese in the box. Unfortunately for New Jersey, they were not able to capitalize on either power play opportunity, with the Canadiens blocking four shots and keeping the Devils to shooting from the outside.
6. Damon Severson had a season high - and team-leading - five shots on net. His previous season high was four, which he accomplished three times this season.
7. Hischier had a great opportunity at 5:18 of the third period to give the Devils a go-ahead goal. On the penalty kill, Hischier got the puck past two Canadiens defenders to go one on one with Price. Hischier went to his backhand, but Price came up with the save to keep the game tied at one.

  1. The Devils and Canadiens kept it fairly close in the shot department, both goaltenders kept busy throughout the night. Schneider had a strong outing in Montreal, making 34 of 36 saves. His record against the Canadiens is now 1-2-4.
    9. The Devils' road record against Eastern Conference teams drops to 6-1-2 this season, and their record is 7-1-3 overall against the Atlantic Division.
    10. It's a quick turnaround for New Jersey who is back home at Prudential Center on Friday night hosting the Dallas Stars. Tickets for the game are available.
