Russian streak continues at Worlds

by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devils
Ilya Kovalchuk's line with Pavel Datsyuk and Evgeni Malkin has Russia on a roll at the 2010 IIHF World Championship in Germany.

Led by Datsyuk's hat trick, the trio collected 10 points in Sunday's 6-1 win over Denmark. Kovalchuk, the Russian captain, tallied three assists and is tied with Alex Ovechkin for the team points lead with two goals and three assists in five games.

The only undefeated team in the tournament, Russia has won 23 in a row overall. The two-time defending champions haven't lost a game at the Worlds since 2007.

Russia continues the qualification round against Finland on Tuesday.

Team USA to face Italy
After going winless in the preliminaries, the U.S. has posted back-to-back victories in the relegation round. Andy Greene recorded an assist Saturday, as the Americans walloped Kazakhstan, 10-0.

Team USA topped France, 4-0, on Sunday, and will battle Italy on Tuesday. With a point versus the Italians, the U.S. would avoid being relegated to international hockey's second tier.
