Rookies hit the ice at camp

Albany coach Rick Kowalsky diagrams a drill on the first day of on-ice sessions at training camp.

Devils rookies were at AmeriHealth Pavilion on Wednesday for the first day of on-ice work at training camp. The session opened with Devils goaltending coach Chris Terreri and new Albany goalie coach Johan Hedberg working with prospects Keith Kinkaid and Anthony Brodeur.

The first session’s forward group was Reid Boucher, Kelly Zajac, Darcy Zajac, Cam Janssen, David Wohlberg, Myles Bell, John Quenneville, Connor Chatham, Ben Johnson, Chris McKelvie and Tim Sestito. The defensemen were Dan Kelly, Raman Hrabarenka, Reece Scarlett, Corbin McPherson.

Tommy Albelin, who takes over Scott Stevens' role as a Devils assistant coach this season, was on ice with Albany (AHL) head coach Rick Kowalsky and Albany assistants Sergei Brylin and David Cunniff.

Cunniff was announced Monday as Albelin’s replacement with the Devils’ top affiliate. He's the son of former Devils head coach John Cunniff.

The afternoon session included goaltenders Scott Wedgewood and Maxime Clermont; forwards Rod Pelley, Paul Thompson, Stefan Matteau, Joe Whitney, Ben Thomson, Ryan Kujawinski, Mike Sislo, Brandon Baddock and Scott Timmins; and defensemen Brandon Burlon, Seth Helgeson, Joe Faust, Damon Severson and Ryan Rehill.
