After Mike Mottau had broken a 1-1 tie during a situational five-on-three, Rolston scored 42 seconds later on another two-man advantage. His slapshot from the left circle beat Scott Clemmensen to put the Red squad ahead, 3-1, with 12:11 remaining.
Rolston and Mottau were part of a power play line that featured Brian Gionta, Dainius Zubrus
and Patrik Elias
, and the group clicked for two of Red's three goals in the game.
The 60-minute contest was split into two 30-minute periods. Pascal Rheaume beat Martin Brodeur
to give Red an early 1-0 lead, and the score remained that way to start the second half.
Kevin Weekes and Jeff Frazee
shared goaltending duties for Red. Weekes was in goal when White tied it up on Jamie Langenbrunner's shot from the point at 13:07 of the second half.
Later, trailing by two goals, Zach Parise
converted on a five-on-three to bring White within one. Weekes allowed a rebound on Paul Martin's shot from the point, and Parise put it home to make it 3-2.
The Red squad featured a top line of Gionta, Rolston and Elias. For power plays, Rolston played the point alongside Mottau, with Zubrus or Bobby Holik creating traffic in front. For White, the line of Parise, Travis Zajac
and Langenbrunner remained intact from Wednesday's preseason game, with David Clarkson
added to the mix on power plays and Langenbrunner dropping back to the point with Martin.
Fedor Fedorov and Petr Vrana
, who had skated on a line with Nicklas Bergfors in two preseason games, worked with Vladimir Zharkov
The assistant coaches handled the work behind the benches, with Tommy Albelin leading Red and John MacLean working with White.
The Devils continue their preseason schedule with a 1 p.m. contest Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers, then return home to face the Washington Capitals for a 7 p.m. start on Monday.
