After a thrilling nine day and 73 game journey, the final three games of the NJSIAA State High School Ice Hockey Tournament are now upon us.
Public A Bracket
In the first semifinal game of the Public A Bracket, four-seed Bridgewater-Raritan punched their ticket to Newark by defeating nine-seed Livingston. Bridgewater-Raritan got out to an early 3-0 lead, only to see Livingston cut that lead to 3-2 halfway through the third period. But the Bridgewater-Rairitan squad held on thanks in part to 22 saves by goaltender Bobby Esposito.
They will face defending Public A champion Randolph, as the second-seed defeated third-seed Ridge. Ben Raff gave Ridge a 1-0 lead in the first period, a lead they held until the third period when Noah Leinwand put Randolph on the board. The game went to overtime, where Randolph went on to win 2-1 on a goal by Mitchell Gaudioso.
Bridgewater-Raritan will face Randolph in the Public A Championship at 5 pm on Saturday at Prudential Center.
Public B Bracket
In an upset, fifth-seed Chatham defeated top-seed Ramsey 3-0. William Barnett had a goal and an assist and Teddy Simson assisted on two Chatham goals. Chatham held Ramsey to 12 shots, and goaltender C.J. Albanese stopped them all in the victory. Chatham will take on third-seed Morristown, whom defeated two-seed Kinnelon 2-1 in overtime. Kinnelon tied the game at one late in the third period, but Jack Szary scored in the first overtime period to give Morristown the victory.
Chatham will play Morristown in the Public B Championship at 3 pm on Saturday at The Rock.
The journey of twelve-seed Paramus Catholic came to an end as top-seed Delbarton took care of business, defeating the Paladins 10-1. Josh Melnick netted a hat trick, in addition to three assists for Delbarton. John Baiocco also had seven points in the win.
The bracket’s top seed will look to defend the Non-Public Bracket championship when they face off against three-seed Don Bosco Prep, whom defeated second-seed Christian Brothers Academy 5-3. Jim Rainey scored twice and Jarred Liscio made 30 saves for Don Bosco in the victory.
The Non-Public Championship featuring Delbarton and Don Bosco Prep will be played at 1 pm on Saturday in Newark.
