NAME: Juan Rego III
HOMETOWN: South Orange
CAREER: I work for my town’s recreation department.
TWITTER HANDLE: Juan_Rego
I HAVE BEEN A SEASON TICKET MEMBER FOR: Six years.
I HAVE BEEN A DEVILS FAN SINCE: The 1999-2000 season. My dad, Juan Rego Jr., was always a sports fan. The Stanley Cup Playoffs came around and we watched that. I remember staying up late and making a shirt out of an undershirt that said “Stanley Cup Champs.” It was really kind of lucky to be sitting there with my dad, watching those games.
BEFORE EVERY DEVILS GAME, I MAKE SURE: I pick which Devils apparel I wear. I have a few hats and depending on how the Devils are doing, I’ll change it up. If the Devils are winning, I’ll wear the same stuff. We also always go through the same entrance, on Lafayette Street before the games.
YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT: I first started playing hockey as a freshman in high school, and I played throughout my high school years as a right wing at Hudson Catholic Regional High School.
MY FAVORITE CURRENT PLAYER IS: Travis Zajac. He’s one of the longest serving members of the team, and I think his work ethic on the ice is something a lot of people don’t give him credit for.
IF I COULD ASK HIM ONE THING: Knowing you’re a very hard worker, how do you deal with the critics among the fans?
MY FAVORITE MARTY MOMENT IS: I was here for win No. 552. I remember him cutting down the net, and skating around the rink with the net in his hand.
MY FAVORITE PIECE OF DEVILS MEMORABILIA IS: As a giveaway after Brodeur’s 552nd win, the team gave away mini sticks commemorating the win. They had “Martin Brodeur,” “552” and “All-Time Winning Goalie” on them. The next season, I got it signed by him. The fact that the stick has one of his biggest achievements, being the all-time winning goalie, and the fact that he signed it and I’ll have it forever, makes the stick very special.
I AM #RELENTLESS BECAUSE: I haven’t missed a game all season.
