#RELENTLESS Fan of the Game: James Marchiella

by Gordy Stillman / New Jersey Devils
Season Ticket Member James Marchiella became a New Jersey Devils fan while growing up in Queens, where he wanted to be different. To this day, he does not allow the color blue in his apartment.

NAME: James Marchiella

AGE: 33

SECTION: 211

HOMETOWN: Queens, NY

CAREER: I work in business consulting.

TWITTER HANDLE: @Giacomo6182

I HAVE BEEN A SEASON TICKET MEMBER FOR: Nine years.

I HAVE BEEN A DEVILS FAN SINCE: The early 1990s. I became a fan in 1994, when I was in elementary school. I remember watching them play the New York Rangers in the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals. The Devils became my team because I had to be different.

BEFORE EVERY DEVILS GAME, I MAKE SURE: I wear the same jersey to every game for the season. This year I’m wearing my five-year tenure jersey. It has the number 82 and my name on the black. When I got an Ilya Kovalchuk jersey I wore that for a year as well.

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT: I don’t allow any blue in my apartment, and don’t own any blue clothing.

MY FAVORITE CURRENT PLAYER IS: Adam Henrique. I think he’s the best player on the team.

IF I COULD ASK HIM ONE THING: How did it feel to score the game winning goal that sent the Devils to the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals?

MY FAVORITE MARTY MOMENT IS: I was here for his last game at Prudential Center. I posted on social media something along the lines of “Never forget the time you left a Devils game and Brodeur did with you.”

MY FAVORITE PIECE OF DEVILS MEMORABILIA IS: I have three miniature replicas of the Stanley Cup for each championship. My sister bought them for me as a Christmas gift about five years ago. I keep them near my bed and they are the first thing I see when I wake up.

I AM #RELENTLESS BECAUSE: I never stop showing up and rooting for the Devils
