Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today re-signed restricted free-agent right wing Nathan Bastian to a two-year contract worth a total of $1,650,000 with an average annual value of $825,000. The breakdown is as follows: 2021-22, $775,000 and 2022-23, $875,000. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Bastian, 23, completed his first full NHL season with the Devils. The forward recorded 10 points in 41 games played, tallying three goals and seven assists He led the club in hits (136), and ranked second among all NHL rookies, only two behind Montreal's Alexander Romanov, who played 12 more games. Bastian was one of 11 New Jersey rookie skaters in 2020-21.

Bastian made his NHL debut on January 19, 2019, and netted his first career NHL goal on February 25, 2019, against the Montreal Canadiens. He's dressed in 48 career NHL games and totaled 13 points (6g-7a).
Born on December 6, 1997, the native of Kitchener, Ontario, was New Jersey's second-round selection, 41st overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft. Prior to his professional experience, the 6'4'', 205 lb. forward spent parts of four seasons, from 2013-14 through 2016-2017, in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) skating for the Mississauga Steelheads, where he served as an alternate captain during the 2016-17 season. He and current Devil, Michael McLeod, were teammates in Mississauga from 2014-15 until 2016-17.
Bastian also spent parts of three seasons, 2017-18 to 2019-20, with New Jersey's American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, earning 80 points (44g-36a) in 188 regular-season contests.
