RELEASE: Devils Name Mark Recchi Assistant Coach

The New Jersey Devils today named Mark Recchi as an assistant coach to join Head Coach Lindy Ruff's staff. The announcement was made by Devils' Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
"We are extremely excited to add Mark to our coaching staff, where his experience as a player, coach, and in development will be invaluable," said Fitzgerald. "His work with the power play and managing personnel in Pittsburgh are skills that will benefit our group moving forward. Mark's leadership, communication abilities, patience, and presence will be integral for the growth of our young core."
For the previous three seasons, Recchi served as an Assistant Coach with Pittsburgh where he was responsible for the power play. In those three seasons as an assistant coach, the Penguins posted a 131-78-24 record, qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs each year. The Penguins were top-five in the League on the power play in two of his three seasons, including leading the League in 2017-18 with a 26.2% success rate. Their three-year mark of 23.8% ranked third over that span.

The 52-year-old joined the Penguins as a Development Coach in 2014-15, a position he held for three seasons before becoming Assistant Coach. Recchi served in the role for Pittsburgh during their 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup Championships. In that position, he was responsible for working with the organization's young prospects in the minors, juniors, and college. Prior to Pittsburgh, Recchi began his post-playing career as a Senior Advisor for Dallas (NHL) in 2013-14.
His 22-year NHL career included 1,652 games (sixth all-time), 577 goals (21st), 956 assists (5th), 1,533 points (12th), seven All-Star Games (1997 MVP) and three Stanley Cup Championships- 1991 with Pittsburgh, 2006 with Carolina and 2011 with Boston. In 189 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he scored 61 goals and 86 assists for 147 points. Recchi spent most of his playing days in Philadelphia (602 regular-season games), and also skated for Pittsburgh (389), Montreal (346), Boston (180), Tampa Bay (62), Atlanta (53), and Carolina (20). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.
A native of Kamloops, BC, Recchi brought home two gold medals for Canada- the 1988 World Junior Championship and 1997 World Championship, and skated in the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. Born February 1, 1968, Mark and his wife, Kim, currently reside in Pittsburgh. Mark has six children.
