The Devils were active during Wednesday's NHL Trade Deadline, engagin in swaps with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators and Florida Panthers. Devils General Manager Ray Shero sat down with Devils All-Access reporter Michelle Gingras to discuss the deadline and his expectations on-and-off the ice for the remainder of the season, into free agency and the 2017 NHL Draft. Shero on the remainder of the season: "Since I got here to New Jersey, I have focused on putting together a team that will be competitive, to get younger, get assets. We aren't giving up."

Dalton Prout

The New Jersey Devils today acquired defenseman Dalton Prout from Columbus in exchange for defenseman Kyle Quincey.

Prout, 26, has played the past six professional seasons in the Blue Jackets organization. In 224 career NHL games, he has notched six goals and 27 assists for 33 points while accumulating 263 penalty minutes. He has spent time with both Columbus and Cleveland (AHL) this season. He has tallied three assists and 14 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Blue Jackets while posting a +3 mark.

The 6-3, 230lb. blueliner was Columbus' seventh pick (sixth round), and 154th overall selection in the 2010 Entry Draft. A right-handed defenseman, Prout played five seasons of junior hockey with three teams- Sarnia, Barrie and Saginaw- of the Ontario Hockey League.

 

2016 Sixth Round Draft Selection (from Nashville)

The New Jersey Devils today traded F P.A. Parenteau to the Nashville Predators, in exchange for Nashville's sixth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

This marks the 11th selection New Jersey will have in the 2017 NHL Draft, including one first, two seconds, two thirds and two fourth rounders.

 

Shane Harper

The New Jersey Devils today acquired forward Shane Harper from Florida in exchange for defenseman Reece Scarlett. Harper will report to Albany (AHL).

Harper, 28, made his NHL debut with the Panthers against New Jersey in the season-opening game on October 13, 2016. In 14 NHL games this season, he has two goals and one assist with 18 penalty minutes. He has played in 39 AHL games with Springfield this year, scoring 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points and 6 PIM.

Pierre McGuire, NBC Hockey Analyst: "They're going in the right direction. Ray is doing a fantastic job, and his patience is going to pay long-term dividends. He's got some veteran presence and young talent, and it stabilizing the situation."


James O'Brien, ProHockey Talk: "Ray Shero and the Devils continue to do the right thing. They are putting themselves in position to be a major player and build on the foundation that currently resides at The Rock."


Kevin Allen, USA Today: "Quincey will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and Prout has another season left on a contract with a $1.58 million cap hit. He could be part of the Devils' future. Quincey was not going to be part of their future."
