John Quenneville's insurance goal with 42 seconds to go in regulation helped stake the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 6-4 victory in Game 2 of the WHL Eastern Conference final against the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday.
Quenneville, who had two goals in Game 1, including the overtime winner, ranks second on the Wheat Kings with 19 points (10g-9a) and a plus-13 in 13 postseason games. His tally was the third of three unanswered goals by Brandon, which turned a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead in a span of 2:08 in the final period.
The Wheat Kings lead the best-of-seven series two games to none.
Brandon is making its second straight appearance in the conference final, which resumes Tuesday in Red Deer. The Rebels are led by former Devils head coach Brent Sutter, who serves as owner, GM and coach.
Quenneville, the 30th overall pick in the 2014 Draft, now has 51 points (25g-26a) in 41 career postseason games with Brandon. His 19 playoff points this season matches his career best from last postseason in six fewer games.
