Day One Dev Camp

Day One of Devils Development Camp kicks off today at RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House, as the prospects gather for a week-long event. Thirty-six players have been invited to this year's camp, which is run by the Utica Comets staff, and the Devils development coaches.
On Monday, the prospects are undergoing off-ice testing and workouts and will take part in a community event, before they lace up their skates on Tuesday to begin the on-ice portion of camp.
Of the 36 players, you'll find some familiar names, with NHL-experienced players which include players like Tyce Thompson and Alexander Holtz. And then there are the newest members of the franchise, visiting New Jersey and the facilities for their first time. Simon Nemec, taken with the second overall selection last Thursday will wear number five during his first development camp, as he catches a glimpse of what it's like to be a professional in North America for the first time. He's not alone as a 2022 draft selection on hand, with Seamus Casey, Charlie Leddy, Josh Filmon, and goaltender Tyler Brennan all making their development camp debuts after being drafted just days ago.

Among those attending are nine invites, which include Filip Bratt, the younger brother of Devils forward Jesper Bratt. The younger Bratt is a 5'10 defenseman who plays in his native Sweden, most recently with AIK of the HockeyAllsvenskan. Filip will wear number 64 during camp, one higher than his brother's NHL jersey.
2021 first-round draft choice Chase Stillman will also be present, one of four first-rounders at camp (Holtz, Nemec, and Foote (TB)).
Headlining the goaltenders is Nico Daws, who played 25 games for New Jersey last season. He will be joined by five other goaltenders, including Akira Schmid who appeared in six NHL games this season.
