The Devils announced Thursday that Ilkka Pikkarainen has been placed on waivers. If he clears waivers, he will be assigned to Lowell (AHL).
The 28-year-old right wing had a goal and three assists in 31 games this season, his first in the NHL. He had spent the previous three campaigns in his native Finland playing for HIFK Helsinki, where he notched 49 goals and 43 assists in 154 games.
In three seasons with the Devils’ Albany AHL affiliate from 2003-06, Pikkarainen tallied 29 goals and 33 assists in 196 contests.
Pikkarainen was New Jersey’s ninth choice, 218th overall, in 2002.
