GLENDALE, AZ - The road trip continues for the New Jersey Devils with a stop in Arizona on Friday night. The Devils look to put behind their loss in Dallas to begin the trip with a strong performance against the Coyotes.
Head coach John Hynes will make a single change to the lineup, with John Quenneville sitting as a healthy scratch and recent call-up Blake Pietila drawing into the lineup for the first time this season.
"John has played well," Hynes said. "It's one of those things where he's done a lot of little things well, his game has grown and certainly matured. I think there is a consistency factor with him that has to be a little bit better. We've been pretty pleased with him. We'll have a meeting with him this afternoon and let him know he's done lots of good things and he's played well, but has he done enough to be in it every single night? I think he's earned the games that he's gotten. But Blake [Pietila] played very well [in Binghamton], so it's an opportunity for us to be able to get another guy from the organization that's earned the opportunity."
For Pietila, he has 17 games of NHL experience under his belt over the past three seasons, but is looking forward to making his season debut in Arizona.
"It's about keeping it simple," Pietila said. "It's exciting to get the call-up and to mix in a few games. I just have to stick with what works for me."
Pietila has 22 points in 34 games with Binghamton this season, with 12 goals and 10 assists.
Mackenzie Blackwood will get another start in net, the rookie being more than capable of handling the heavy work-load. Hynes did confirm that Keith Kinkaid will be in front of the net when the team plays Vegas on Sunday afternoon.
"This part of the schedule is set up where if someone was playing well you could play them in multiple games in a row," Hynes said. "Keith will get back against Vegas, and then we've got a lot of hockey between now and the [bye-week] and we'll need both guys playing."
